James E. Richmond Science Center
The mission of the James E. Richmond Science Center is to inspire and stimulate an appreciation of science and its interrelationship with all other disciplines. The center exists to serve and enrich the entire student population of Charles County, as well as the greater Southern Maryland community. The center accomplishes their goals by creating exciting and memorable experiences that are multi-disciplinary in focus and incorporate their hands-on Discovery Lab, NOAA Science on a Sphere content, and the Planetarium.
The James E. Richmond Science Center is located on the campus of St. Charles High School in Waldorf, opened in July 2014. The Science Center is a cutting edge experiential center that hosts school groups, family and community events. The Science Center’s focal points include a 184 seat planetarium, a 6-foot diameter NOAA Science on a Sphere, and a Discovery Lab all which are used in combination to allow students and visitors to experience various levels of science, math, history, and fine arts, in new and exciting ways. The Center specializes in STEAM and problem based learning and can customize learning experiences for all ages.
